Level 1 Horsemanship Program
In the Horsemanship Level 1 Program your kids will
learn the following:
The level I Horsemanship manual is the
beginning of your child’s association with horses. The goals
they will work towards in Level I include how to safety tie,
groom, saddle and bridle, mount and ride a horse. Your kids
will also be able to identify various parts of your horse
and riding equipment. They will develop the ability to
control a horse through the trot.
General Horse information:
Safety rules and reasons
Horse care and handling:
Approach your horse, halter and lead
your horse, tying a horse safely and quick release knot,
grooming, parts of the horse, parts of the tack, saddling
your horse, bridling your horse.
Horsemanship:
Mounting and dismounting, basic seat
and hand position, holding the reins, basic aids, how to
ask, tell and command, horse control (start, stop check and
release) turn, basic figures (circles and reverses, half
circle and half turn), the trot, control at the trot,
sitting the trot, half seat or standing trot, posting or
rising trot, exercises on horseback, and Trail riding
Testing and evaluation:
Requirements, written test, arena test
and score sheets (based on the age of the kids)
We will provide your child with a
learning booklet, what they can take home with them of the
Level I Horsemanship program. We will have a day, were the
kids will paint most of the body parts which they learned
on the horse, and they can paint it like an Indian pony.
(The children are able to visualize, therefore learning
faster)
After the kids pass the test on the
last day, they will get a Certificate of completion of their
summer camp at MacDonalds Ranch and also a picture of them
and their horse.
